screwing is one of the important steps for completing a total metal roofing system. You can’t deny it in any way. Without screwing, your metal roofing won’t finish.

Now let’s focus on the corrugated metal roofing system. The demand for corrugated metal roofs is increasing day by day because of their durability.

The screwing process for a normal roof or a corrugated metal roof is the same. If you want to screw properly, you need to know several steps on how to do it.

Now, for knowing these steps, you need to read the content on “how to screw corrugated metal roofing“.

In this content, you are going to learn about the right way for screwing a corrugated metal roof. Along with the step-by-step guidelines, you will get a complete idea about what kind of safety cautions you need to maintain.

Hopefully, you will enjoy this article on screwing corrugated metal roofing.

How To Screw Corrugated Metal Roofing

How to screw a corrugated metal roof: An ultimate guide

A metal roof is installed instead of a concrete roof or as an alternative roofing system to a concrete roof.

There are many reasons to install a corrugated metal roof. One of the reasons is that it is durable, does not rust easily. It is effective in different climates and so on.

One of the most important tasks when installing is screwing. Hence, you need to learn the proper way of screwing.

If the size of the screws is not right, water can enter inside after screwing. That’s why you need to buy screws that are equal to the diameter of the drill machine and then drill.

When you install corrugated metal roofing, it is important to properly overlap the panels and install screws in the right place. In this content, you are going to learn how to do it.

Necessary tools

  • Butyl tape
  • Drill machine
  • Measuring tape
  • Marker
  • Screwdriver

Step-by-step guideline

Step 01: Overlapping of  corrugated metal roof

I assume you have already installed a corrugated metal roof properly.  But if not, you have to make sure you install it properly.  The key is to ensure that the metal roof is properly installed and overlapped.

The work cannot be done properly if the overlapping is not in right place.  Now place a strip of double-sided butyl tape on a metal panel and then complete the overlapping by placing another panel.

Step 02: Corrugated metal roof coverage

If you notice a little better after the overlapping is complete, you will see that you are losing coverage of the panel.

For example, if the width of a metal roofing panel is 36 inches, the width after overlapping will be 34-35 inches.  As this coverage decreases, the number of panels cannot be adjusted.

So, find out the required number of screws by measuring the panel number with measuring tape.

Step 03: Fix the screw line and mark the distance between the two lines

Panels of 36-inch width are usually available in the market. Four screws should be applied to each panel. So mark the place to screw one at every 9-inch distance with a marker.

Thus complete the screw line. The distance between the two screw lines of each panel will be 24 inches.

The weather is different in different places. Somewhere there is a lot of wind and somewhere there is snow. Depending on these weather conditions, only then the engineer can tell the distance between two screw lines.

However, it is usually 24 inches.

Step 04: Screw on the top or bottom of the panel

Corrugated metal roofing panels have two layers, high and low.

To screw, I always recommend screwing on the high position of the panel. Water or derby will not get stuck if screwed in a high position. If these are stuck, the metal roof will be damaged.

Before screwing, mark the areas where the corrugated metal roof needs to be screwed.

Step 05: Drilled by a drill machine

Now the screw position is marked all over the corrugated metal roof. This means that the structure has been created, you just need to drill with a drill machine.

Holes should be made according to the diameter of the screw. When the perforation is over, check carefully to see if there is any perforation left. If you drill properly, it will be convenient to screw.

Step 06: Seal with a screw

The hole has been drilled with a drill machine;  All other work is done.  Now the last task is to seal it with screws.

Different-sized screws are available.  And hence, since you will screw on the top of the panel, the length of the screw should be more than the total thickness of the panel and structure, typically, the thickness of the panel is 1/2 inch and the thickness of the bottom structure is one inch. So buy a screw that is at least 1 and 1/2 inches long.

Do not work with screws shorter than this length. Better to buy a 2-inch screw.  Place the screw in the hole and tighten well with the screwdriver on the fastener so that there are no gaps.

This way you can screw on the corrugated metal roof if you follow the step-by-step instructions from start to end.

What safety measures must be maintained?

1. Since you have to use a ladder when climbing on the roof, be careful when climbing on the roof with the help of a ladder. A little carelessness can cause you to fall and get injured.

2. Not everyone can work on top of the roof because some feel different types of fears. If you work on the roof, you must remove these fears.

Also, keep someone on the ground so that they can help if anything happens.

3. Another special precaution is to use a drill machine which must be used very carefully.

Since the drill machine is an electrical device, you should not touch with the body or clothes in any way while working.  It is usually used for leaking.

Conclusion

Screwing a corrugated metal roof is not a difficult task. If you follow the step-by-step guidelines, you will be able to finish the job well.
