Rubber roofing is one of the most durable and effective roofing elements available. But the effectiveness of this rubber roofing largely depends on the proper installation.

To install a rubber roof, you must first check with your local government to see whether this roofing style is permitted. After that, you’ll need a few pieces of equipment to do this job.

To avoid rubber damage, keep the substrate’s surface free of molds, debris, screws, and other obstructions.

To learn more about how to install rubber roofing, read this article thoroughly.

How To Install Rubber Roofing: An In Depth Guideline

Metal, asphalt shingles, rubber, wood shingles, and a variety of other roofing materials are all available on the market. Among them, rubber roofing is the most ecologically and ecologicallly friendly.

Rubber roofing is not difficult to install. So there’s no need to be concerned. Simply follow the instructions outlined below to complete your task correctly.

First of all, there are some of the tools you’ll need to complete this task. They are as follows:

  • A hammer
  • A nine inch paint roller
  • A four inch paint roller
  • A trimmer
  • A broom brush
  • Roofing gloves

Now let’s have a look into some vital steps that will make your work easier.

Step 1: Prepare the roof

Examine and clean the substrate surface to remove dirt, screws, molds, nails, or any types of projecting obstacles which might harm the membrane of the roof or prohibit the glue from adhering properly.

And most importantly, you have to install the roofing system in a dry condition. So choose the days wisely.

Step 2: Put down the roofing membrane on top of the substrate

Inspect to see whether the membrane seems to have a bottom or a top via checking for any watermarks, printing, logos, or other markings. Then lay it down such that the entirely flat part is pointing up.

Step 3: Allow the roofing membrane to settle for thirty minutes.

To prevent wrinkles, rest the membrane approximately 30 minutes. It’s critical to have some overlap across the substrate. And then you can complete the roofing system entirely insulated and waterproof.

Step 4: Apply the adhesive to bind the rubber roofing membrane.

After allowing it to settle, bring half of the membrane straight to the central point and then use the paint brush to apply the water – based glue.

Allow a 150 millimeters border free of glue, as all these margins will prefer an unique contact glue eventually.

Now lay down the rubber roofing membrane on top of the wet glue and repeat this process again. For strengthening the bonding, use the broom to brush in newly applied rubber.

Step 5: Apply the glue on the opposite part as well.

When you have finished one half, return to the central point and restart the glue rolling as well as following the process on the other half. Avoid getting adhesive on the rubber’s upward facing area. But when you already did, just wash the glue off.

Step 6: Eliminate the unwanted air bubbles created on the surface.

After completing both parts, just wipe the entire surface to eradicate unwanted air bubbles, which will help the rubber membrane and glue make better contact.

If any wrinkles or unappealing folds remain in the membranes, apply pressure to all those spots to develop adhesion as well as a polished appearance.

Step 7: Place the adhesives on the perimeters of the substrate.

Now apply the adhesives to the 150 millimeters borders using the smaller paint roller. This adhesive generates a stronger, firmer, and long lasting bond which helps to prevent lifting as well as water intrusion.

Then remove all surplus membrane flaps. That allows an overlap which is simply a bit smaller than the plastic trims. You will need to trim off the borders of the roof.

Verdict

Rubber roofing is often made out of recyclable material which makes it the most environmentally friendly option among others. In addition, there  are less possibilities of finding leakages and creases with this roofing system .

The installation of a rubber roofing system is a simple process. You are capable of completing the task on your own. Simply follow the steps outlined above.

Well, I believe you now understand how to install rubber roofing. So, what are you waiting for? Get to work.

Maintaining safety procedures while performing the operation is also a key.
